2nd Quarter—Building a Successful Team: From Interview to Annual Training, Strategies that can Reduce Professional Liability Risk

2nd Quarter—Building a Successful Team: From Interview to Annual Training, Strategies that can Reduce Professional Liability Risk

Hiring and training office staff is essential for developing a successful team and reducing provider and the practice risks of being sued. Feedback from medical office management professionals and liability assessments reveals that staffing issues are among the main areas where offices would like assistance. This workshop is designed specifically for individuals that have a role in hiring or training non-clinical medical office staff (e.g., reception, billing & coding, medical assistants). The program uses an electronic workbook and hypothetical scenarios to walk through hiring and training steps, emphasizing patient safety and medical professional liability concerns. We will review methods for effective behavioral interviewing and candidate evaluation techniques. Next, we will walk through a sample employee orientation checklist, on-the-job training, and personnel file components. Participants will leave the program with tools that can be modified for their specific situation and a thorough understanding of how and why to use them and how they support the safe practice of medicine and reduce your practice’s risk of being sued.
